On December 20, 1983, Rebecca Lee Burr was born into a
large extended family with deep southern roots. She was
raised in the small farming community of Hahira,
Georgia, in the southern part of the state. After
graduating from high school, Beckey, with the help of
her relatives, left the Valdosta area and moved to
Tennessee in order to begin building her music career.
Beckey's parents, Kay Burr and Calvin Burr, were
originally from New York and Pennsylvania, respectively.
While taking a trip through southern Georgia, they had
unexpected car trouble. Because they could not afford to
travel any farther, they made Valdosta their home.
Beckey's dad, Calvin, was talented at woodworking, so he
used his skills to support his family. The Burr's first
child, Beckey's older brother Patrick, entered the world
after the family had gotten settled. Six years later,
Beckey joined the family. Along with his woodworking
job, Calvin spent most of his adult life serving his
country in the military. He did several tours of duty,
the last of which was Desert Storm. On the night that he
arrived home on leave to see his family, Calvin suffered
a massive heart attack and passed away. Beckey was only
seven years old.
Beckey has always loved to sing. She started singing in
church at the age of five, and then as friends and
family began to notice her talent, they encouraged her
to sing whenever she could. From church she moved on to
sing at school, charity functions, country fairs, and
festivals, just to name a few.
While singing with a band at an agricultural expo in
Tifton, Georgia, Beckey realized for the first time that
she wanted to pursue singing as a lifelong career. Since
the age of 15, she has been working to achieve this
goal.
Beckey loves listening to a variety of music, but her
favorite is country music. Some of her musical
influences include Faith Hill, Aretha Franklin, Elvis
Presley and her favorite artist, Reba McEntire.
In September 2004, Beckey moved to Nashville to continue
building her career. Her first step in the Music City
was to complete a 12-song CD as a demo project. Rustic
Records, Inc. found Beckey in January 2005, and by the
end of the month she had signed her first record deal.
On March 21, 2005, Beckey's first single, "Mercy" was
released to country radio. The song earned Beckey some
nice reviews.
Currently Beckey is working on her first full-length
album, and she continues to work on the career that she
loves. |
